Irish Folk
Rose McCan
Rose’s passion for Irish folk music began on an Irish national holiday in a Zurich pub, where countless patrons sang along to countless ‘Dubliners’ songs, knowing every word by heart. This was, and remains, an unforgettable and formative experience.
Two decades later, her bag of experiences is bursting at the seams and a long-cherished secret dream is about to come true.
➡ On 17 April (one month after St Patrick’s Day) her debut album 🍀 I Am Not Irish 🍀 will be released. The title alone says a lot, or?
Rose liebt den Irish Folk, keine Frage, doch sie braucht auch die Abwechslung, um glücklich zu sein.
Her passion for Irish folk music and her songwriting talent led her, during the pandemic, to start writing her own songs in an Irish-folk style. Her repertoire later expanded to include traditional pieces, unusual covers, and Irish oldies in Swiss German. As a counterpoint, Rose also launched her dialect pop project “Ros Rain” to learn, through what she called a self-designed “pop apprenticeship” with her producer, what defines that genre. To fulfill a long-held dream, she will release her debut album Lueg on Friday, February 13, 2026—as a kind of “final project”—featuring 13 songs, interestingly all in a “Birchermuesli” style of Bernese German. A Zurich-based musician, originally from Aargau, singing in Bernese German? Perhaps that is precisely why Rose is so creative.
On stage, Rose performs solo with her guitar, playing mainly her own songs – in the Irish folk style and, since 2026, also her dialect songs in the singer-songwriter style. As the duo SaitWind, her focus broadens to include traditional Irish folk music, for which she also plays the mandola and the bodhran.
Anyone who appreciates a stripped-down, natural performance will enjoy Rose’s stage presence and her closeness to the audience..

Looking for musicians for an Irish session?
Whether it’s for a party, as part of an event’s entertainment programme, or for a wedding?
Rose will be happy to provide information on requirements, options, and so on.
Irish Sessions
‘Irish Sessions’ are similar to Swiss ‘Stubeten’, where musicians from near and far come together to make music without having rehearsed beforehand.
Rose has organised many sessions in a wide variety of formats.
Open / Public Sessions
"Open" sessions are public sessions where anyone is welcome to join in. It doesn’t matter whether you know the music or the local repertoire. The tunes played are always more or less well-known (instrumental pieces). If you know the melody, you play along; otherwise, you sit out.
In semi-open/public sessions, either the venue is private or the musicians playing in a public place have been explicitly invited to do so. Not everyone can join in at such venues. You have to have been invited. Such session formats are important, for example, in restaurants where space is limited, or as part of the entertainment for an event such as a wedding or garden party, where everyone should be familiar with the repertoire in order to ‘deliver’ good music.
Rose has often organised such sessions on a smaller scale, such as at the der
🔴 Rösslibeiz in Stäfa
But also public sessions where ‘only’ a stable core group of musicians needed to be provided, such as at the
🔴 Wülflinger Dorfet 2025 (JWG Eulach)
and, of course, at the established concert-accompanying session at the Alte Kaserne in Winterthur to provide the backdrop for the
🔴 ‘Celtic’ concert series
where Rose, as a founding member, still belongs to the core crew (even if her other activities increasingly keep her away from it)

Before and after the Celtic concerts, concertgoers are treated to a taste of the Irish pub atmosphere. As it is not uncommon for concert musicians (often world-renowned stars) to join our Irish session after the concerts, these evenings are truly unforgettable.

A Place in Our Hearts
"The formation and management of a trio, which had evolved from the music session scene, will stay forever in my memory. Sadly Joel, a flute player with many talents, passed away unexpectedly in early 2020. He inspires me even today."
